New wheels & tires!
After initially ordering a set from Discount Tire, and them not fitting at all, I did some research and found a cool Rover Mini performance parts supplier in Jolly Ol’ England, www.minisport.com. Turns out finding 10" rims here IS possible, but they’re only for ATV’s, and finding DOT-approved tires that aren’t offroad style, let alone sport tires, is almost out of the question. I’m willing to bet this Mazda Porter Cab is the only kei truck in WA with Ultralite rims and directional grippies! ....or at least the only Porter Cab with them :)
Now to find some coilovers for the front and flip the leaf spring brackets in the back...

What is the top speed on that bad boy?

Not sure yet- I wired in a tach so I could see how far past the 80 kmph speedo it can go, but I haven’t had the chance to take it on a good straight road w/ a speedometer app yet. Part of that is I was waiting to get better tires on it, cause the stock tires are scary to say the least........actually here, I’ll run outside and take a pic of em side by side...

110kph with a good tail wind :)
The Mazda Porter Cab has a longer 4th gear, which is pretty cool for freeway driving.

Man, you had me worried a bit with that dekotora thing haha, but this looks good, I kind of like it :)
Now, more seriously, super grippy tires are generally not a great idea for these... They are very easy to flip in corners with those... Don’t ask me how I know it. (Never flipped one but already two-wheeled a keivan before...)

I figure being a couple inches lower should help a bit :) Plus I’m not gonna be doing anything too fast til I convert the front drums to discs, they fade like a mofo as they are now.
I wanna hear more about the two-wheeling keivan... were you in the mountains?

This is my new favorite oppo build.

That makes my day! (and helps validate spending more on parts and crap than I did for the truck!) Next up is motorcycle exhaust from a Yamaha sportbike, picking up the rest of the tubing tomorrow. I figure that front flap for “Air conditioning” would be a good place to mount a small intercooler behind too...

Might be a little on the tippy side with that grip.

Nah just a quick corner with new tires that were too grippy for the van lol... I was doing like 20kph lol, but still surprising...
As for putting disc brakes on it, along with the grippy tires... Again, VERY bad idea lol
Seriously, this WILL happen if you do it lol.
Sent you an email btw ;)

I’ll do my best not to roll it. But hey, if I do, It’ll just be an excuse to cut the top off and make it convertible! If I’m not dead, anyway

Watching that fills me with an odd mix of excitement and fear... which usually means I’m on the right track lol

You can try doing that now actually... with those tires and stock brakes it will do it ;)
Please film it though... :)

Let me do up a reverse wheelie bar for the front, and you’ve got yourself a deal!

You can probably give it a first try without... just to get the wheels a few inches off the ground... I can get you a new bumper if needed lol.

Yes! Take all your money spending hobby advice from the internet! You cant go wrong! I want a kei van see the trucks here and there but never see any vans.

Real talk, can you find a rear end for it? That I would definitely be interested in, maybe even two. And those awesome dekotora mirror mounts, of course ;)

Where you at?
But yeah, it’s a fun bonus to be able to share dumb/fun crap done to cars on here. To think, we used to do this without the expectation of comments from people all around the world! Just disapproving looks from neighbors and townsfolk

Rear-end, you mean the bed’s gate? or the drivetrain?

Rear differential

I can look for it, but shipping it would be expensive... Do you want to weld it and make a drift keitruck? :)

Just took it for its first test drive with the new wheels/tires, and I didn’t die, despite all these guys’ warnings :)

I almost bought a kei truck in western NY. That’s where I’m from. Small world! I found out it wasn’t a dump bed so I passed on it.

If you want to talk about small world you should come to NC! You can’t throw a rock around here without hitting someone from Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse. There is a town called Cary just outside of raleigh and the locals joke that it’s the Containment Area (for) Relocated Yankees. :) What part were you from? Rochester here.

Springville/Ellicottville area. I’m still there, 40 mins south of buffalo. That’s pretty funny!

Ha now we are small worlding it. My grandmother and grandfather live in Ellicottville as well as my aunt and a couple cousins enough family in a small enough town to where I bet you know one of them. Grandfather was on Ski Patrol at Holiday Valley so I hung out there every winter using up the free passes he would get

small and getting smaller! I grew up outside of there but far enough to not know many of the locals too well.

Ok cool. Grandfather had a shop/junk yard in Kill Buck just out side of salamanca. Used to hang around there a bunch too.

Yep, I’ve been there with my dad quite a few times for parts.
